7 Reasons I’m Thankful to Call Myself a Writer

I realize this blog's mission is more about encouraging others through motherhood, marriage and faith than it is about writing, but writing is very much a part of the woman God has made me to be.  Plus, many who read my blog are also writers.  I'm confident someone out there will be able to relate.  Is that someone you?

...

Ever since I was a child I've had a passion for writing.  I was the kid who absolutely loved writing pen pal letters to distant friends and couldn't wait to receive their response in our mailbox.

When God Inspires a Child to Raise Her Hands in Worship

The other night the most amazing thing happened.  I'm still in awe of it.

My husband and I usually put our daughters to bed at the same time.  He puts one to bed.  I put the other to bed.  Each night we alternate.

This particular night, he was out of town for work.  I had to put the girls to bed on my own and decided we would have a group bedtime routine rather than individual.

Normally I would read their individual devotions to them, but since they're three years apart in age and their devotions are ...

When Prayer Time With Your Child Becomes Challenging

Praying with our children is so important but it can also be challenging at times.  With a 4 year old and a 7 year old, we've seen our fair share of awkward prayer moments.  Here are just a few, with tips on how we've overcome these challenges.  At least, for the moment.

The Wiggles

When my 4 year old gets tired she has a tendency to get a bad case of the wiggles, which can really be distracting (not to mention disrespectful) during prayer.

Maybe your little one has the same problem...

She ...

Spring Forward: Celebrating More Daylight Hours With Our Children

It's almost time to Spring forward!  One hour, that is.

I love this time of year when daylight savings arrives and the days gradually get longer.  I seem to have more energy with more daylight hours.  Don't you?

An added bonus is that more daylight hours and warmer temperatures means this mama gets to enjoy more opportunities for outdoor jogging!  Woo Hoo!

Of course there are a few downsides to springing ahead.  Longer days mean it's harder to get my kiddos to sleep at night, with all that day light shining through their windows.  As a result, ...

The Truth Behind Sibling Rivalry

I have two young daughters, both uniquely awesome in their little personalities.  Sibling rivalry has been rearing its ugly head in our home a lot lately and what's most disturbing is my girls haven't even reached those highly competitive school-age thru teen years yet.

My oldest is seven.  She's your classic follow-the-rules-and-make-sure-everyone-else-does-too kind of girl.  She's also an overachiever and highly competitive.

Full of energy and life, rarely is silence heard when she's in the room.  I believe she loves the sound of her high pitched squeals and wants to be sure everyone else around her has ...

How to Pray With Your Children

For those of you who are new to reading my blog, you should know I haven't always been an active Christian.  I've always believed in God, but I was never taught the basics of how to live a life of faith.

It wasn't until recent years (and suffering through many trials) that I started pursuing a more deeply connected walk with the Lord.

One area of weakness I struggled with as I began my transformation to the Christian lifestyle was prayer.  A few years ago when I first started blogging, during lent I put myself on my ...

Through the Eyes of Her 7 Year Old Heart…

I learned something fascinating about my sweet seven year old last night.

She worries!

I've always known her to have a sensitive heart, but to be a worrier....just like her mama?

Even more interesting (and admittedly flattering) was what she was worried about.

It all started while we were reading our Mother/Daughter devotion, which by the way, we LOVE!  {If you click on the image, you can go straight to Amazon for your copy!}

Here was the Bible verse we read together:

Then Jesus said to his disciples:  "Therefore I tell you, ...

How to Write a Love Letter to Your Husband

Have you ever written a love letter to your husband?

With Valentine's Day approaching, I thought writing about how to write a love letter to your husband might be just the do-something-special-for-him inspiration you (and I) need.

I realize men and women are different in the kind of gifts they like to receive from one another, but I honestly believe everyone enjoys reading heartfelt words of affirmation from their spouse.  My husband wrote a love letter to me a few years ago and it's one of my most sentimental marital treasures, next to my wedding ring.

You ...
