Staycations Offer Family Fun!

It's no secret my family has been through rough financial times the past several years. Going on vacation has been something we've only dreamed of during our hardship, and this summer will be no different. As much as we'd love to jet the family off to DisneyWorld it's just not in the 2013 budget.

So when my dear friend, Karen, of Family Travels on a Budget started a Staycation business, I was so excited! Since I know many of you are also going through tough financial times, I thought it would be ...

Loud Time With the Lord

Please welcome my guest today, Katie Phillips.  Blogging over at Operation: Leap of Faith, Katie has a beautiful gift for storytelling.  I was captivated by her words when I first read this.  And I could totally relate with her experience.  Take a look!

...

My quiet time lately has been ridiculous. And by ridiculous, I mean, it's been loud. It should be called "loud time" with the Lord. Loud, rambunctious, non-quiet quiet time.

Part of it is my own fault, really. I could get up earlier. I tend to be a snooze button ...

Why it’s So Important to Have God in Your Life

In our weakest moments, when we feel life crashing down around us, we search for some kind of hope, meaning, and purpose.  God is always persistently pursuing our hearts, yet many of us don’t turn to seek Him until we’ve hit an emotional rock bottom.

That's my story.  Maybe it's yours too.

I don't claim to know it all. What I do know is that God used suffering as a training ground to draw me near to Him, to open my heart to hear what He had to say, and to open my eyes to see ...

The Great Adventure

I'm pleased to share a guest with you today.  Lori Fairchild of Everyday Truth is simply...awesome!   She writes a great Christian parenting blog I encourage you to check out.  In fact, Lori (and her blog) are listed on my Favorite Places page with a description as to why I love her blog so much.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My younger daughter has been asking tough questions about God, Jesus and faith lately. She’s nine and she’s trying to wrap her head around the big concepts of God and salvation. She ...
Answer the Knock. Open the Door. Invite Him in. You Won’t Regret it!
In this new faith journey of yours, salvation is a word you'll need to fully understand and embrace.
As I was thinking of how best to minister to you on the subject of salvation, my dear blogging friend, Audra of Rediscovering Domesticity came to mind.  Her passion in motherhood and in faith is so inspiring to me.  I just love her and I know you will too.  Running a blog series called Salvation Saturday's, Audra is the perfect person to write on this topic.
I would love it ...
A Plan for Encouraging Positive Friendships
It's almost that time of year again.  In a few short days, school will be back in session and I'll be home worrying and wondering.
Will the other kids be cruel over last years lies spun out of control?  The ones that left my daughter standing confused and emotionally damaged.  Or will it be long forgotten and a fresh start for all?
I've always encouraged my children to be a friend to all.  Never leave anyone out.  Always be nice.  You never know who might desperately need your friendship.
But what happens when a friendship is discovered ...
When Life Gets Difficult, Take Up Your Cross
It never ceases to amaze me how much closer I am with God when life is difficult than when things are going smoothly.  If you think about it, what incentive does God have in keeping our life joy-filled if He gets more of our attention during the chaos?
It was in the chaos that my salvation occurred.
And it wasn't a profound moment of dropping to my knees hollering, "I believe!!"   In fact, I made a very adult take-up-your-cross kind of faith choice right after giving God a good (or rather...bad) piece of my mind.
I'm honored ...
“Coaching, Not Nagging?” Not In My House, Sister
Please welcome my guest, Cathy Cantu.   She is a frazzled mom of three teenagers, and is quite funny!  I hope you enjoy her thoughts on whether coaching or nagging is the right approach in motherhood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Recently I laughed through a magazine article entitled “Coaching, Not Nagging, Motivates Teens,” written by a revered “organizing coach.”

Since nagging is my full-time job, I perused it while trying to guess who’s gonna get tossed off Redneck Island, which is my other full-time job.

The author reflected on the teenage stage with rosy nostalgia.

Studies actually show that ten out ...

When God Plants the Seed of Crazy in Your Heart

Where running parallels life, valuable lessons are learned.  In rough seasons this form of exercise is medicine to my weary soul.

On the limestone path where rubber soles meet earth, small whispers from the Spirit change me.

And God plants the seed of crazy in my heart...

Today I have the privilege of hanging out with one of my favorite Christian writers, Shannon Milholland, at her blog Jesus and My Orange Juice.

Will you join me over there?  I’m sharing three priceless life lessons God has taught me over ...

Why Are You So Afraid?

It's not always easy to keep the faith.  Even when we know better, fear rears its ugly head, controlling our thoughts, our words, and our actions.  It's particularly difficult when one crisis after another seems to become the story of our life.

What are you afraid of?

Marital problems.  Unemployment.  A major health diagnosis.  Your child being bullied.  A financial hardship.  Not being accepted.

We all have frightening troubles that we face in life.

Today I'm over at 5 Minutes for Faith talking about how ...
