Rise Up! {Book Review & Giveaway}

* I received two free copies (one for review and one to give away) of the book Rise Up from author, Dr. Robert Otto. The review below represents my honest opinion.

My husband and I are currently reading through the book, Rise Up!: For Dad's Who Want to Lead Boldly by Dr. Robert Otto. I really wanted to hear what my husband thought about the book since the target audience is men.

I was thinking how great it would be to have the book finished in time to run a Father's Day time frame giveaway for those of ...

A Letter to My Future Son-in-Law

I know how crazy this sounds. My daughter is only 8 years old, yet here I am writing a letter to her future spouse.

See, the thing is, my husband and I have a nightly routine with our daughters where we pray for them out loud before tucking them into bed. I've recently felt very called to pray for whoever the young boy is out there, that will one day marry my daughter.

So I pray for things like- a good home life as he grows up, a family upbringing as an active believer, a good father who will teach ...

Celebrate Her Birthday With an Art Party

My husband and I are trying to get to the point where our children aren't expecting some huge birthday party every year. After all, I never had birthday parties and neither did he. It shouldn't be a requirement should it? Planning a birthday party is not only time consuming but costly too. And when you give in and throw a party for one child, you inevitably become obligated to do the same for all other children.

So when the topic arose of how we'd help our daughter celebrate her 8th birthday, I immediately suggested that instead of having a party ...

Why I Don’t Want to Be a Paranoid Mom Anymore

I'm not sure if I've shared this with you yet, but I'm a totally paranoid mom.  I don't really want to be that way.  I know I need to trust God with the details of my children's safety, but it's a real struggle for me.

I have childhood memories of running all over the hillside of Greenfield Acres, my Idaho small town rural neighborhood, wild and free.  I would go play with the neighbor kids up the street or the other ones that lived three blocks away.

I would go inside their homes with them.  I would ...

Which Book Cover Would You Choose?

Hey awesome friends,

I'm working on another book project called Refuel Your Inner SuperMom:  A Practical Guide to Getting Your Groove Back.  Do you remember my 31 Days to SuperMom series last October?  Well, this project is that series all compiled into one lovely eBook (Finally! I know some of you have been asking about it...) plus some extra content I'm adding along the way as I build the book.

My goal was to have the book available for purchase by Mother's Day (2013), and while I'm still trying to stick to that timeline, I know myself.  I know I'll ...

What Motherhood Means to Me

Motherhood is the most precious gift the Lord has blessed me with.  Even when I'm feeling tired and weary, I know in my heart my precious children were hand picked by God to be a part of my world.

He orchestrated our family to be together, blessing each others lives with smiles, laughter, kindness, and compassion.  And more!  We aren't a perfect family though.  We each have our faults and quirks that grate on one another's nerves.

My oldest daughter can screech so loud it actually hurts my ears.  As with the sound of nails on a ...

50 Ways to Help Put a Smile on Your Child’s Face

When I look at my children I'm instantly reminded of what a gift they are.  I know my job is to parent them, not be friends with them, but honestly I don't see anything wrong with having fun with my kids.

I love to see them smile and if I can help put that smile on their face, all the better!

Life is short.  We should make the time we have special for and with the people we love.  Sometimes life gets busy though and it's hard to find creative ways to create giggles or memories.

Hopefully ...

When God Inspires a Child to Raise Her Hands in Worship

The other night the most amazing thing happened.  I'm still in awe of it.

My husband and I usually put our daughters to bed at the same time.  He puts one to bed.  I put the other to bed.  Each night we alternate.

This particular night, he was out of town for work.  I had to put the girls to bed on my own and decided we would have a group bedtime routine rather than individual.

Normally I would read their individual devotions to them, but since they're three years apart in age and their devotions are ...

When Prayer Time With Your Child Becomes Challenging

Praying with our children is so important but it can also be challenging at times.  With a 4 year old and a 7 year old, we've seen our fair share of awkward prayer moments.  Here are just a few, with tips on how we've overcome these challenges.  At least, for the moment.

The Wiggles

When my 4 year old gets tired she has a tendency to get a bad case of the wiggles, which can really be distracting (not to mention disrespectful) during prayer.

Maybe your little one has the same problem...

She ...

The Truth Behind Sibling Rivalry

I have two young daughters, both uniquely awesome in their little personalities.  Sibling rivalry has been rearing its ugly head in our home a lot lately and what's most disturbing is my girls haven't even reached those highly competitive school-age thru teen years yet.

My oldest is seven.  She's your classic follow-the-rules-and-make-sure-everyone-else-does-too kind of girl.  She's also an overachiever and highly competitive.

Full of energy and life, rarely is silence heard when she's in the room.  I believe she loves the sound of her high pitched squeals and wants to be sure everyone else around her has ...
