What Motherhood Means to Me

Motherhood is the most precious gift the Lord has blessed me with.  Even when I'm feeling tired and weary, I know in my heart my precious children were hand picked by God to be a part of my world.

He orchestrated our family to be together, blessing each others lives with smiles, laughter, kindness, and compassion.  And more!  We aren't a perfect family though.  We each have our faults and quirks that grate on one another's nerves.

My oldest daughter can screech so loud it actually hurts my ears.  As with the sound of nails on a ...

I Really Need You to Know…I’m Not Perfect

Today I had an emotional meltdown.  In front of my friends.

Lately I feel off and I can't put my finger on what the problem is.  Perhaps I'm under some sort of spiritual attack.  Maybe it's just burnout.  Or even just a healthy dose of self-condemnation; way too much guilt being piled onto my heart.

Wiping tears from my eyes I blurted out the words:

"I'm not supposed to be this way!"

"I'm supposed to be stronger!"

"I'm supposed to have it all together!"

Am I really "supposed" to ...

“I Love You” – More Than Just Words…

He tells me all the time that I'm so good to him.

"I'm so blessed to have you for my wife," he whispers, hugging me.

Yet I struggle to believe it.

More often than not, I'm focused on the kids or the task at hand instead of him.  I'm constantly busy with this or that.

I'm a mom, a wife, a friend, a writer, a blogger, a homemaker, a daughter, a sister, encourager, and a passionate follower of Christ.

There are days when juggling all of it seems so overwhelming.  So I struggle to feel like I'm loving him well. ...

My Children Are More Awesome Than Yours…

Now now, don't throw rotten tomatoes at me for saying that! Hear me out...

We all think our children are pretty awesome, right? Come on, you know you are one proud parent!

Have you ever had the thought cross your mind that your children are better than so and so's because you've done such a good job raising them this far?

Let's be honest.

I'm over here raising my hand.

I've totally had those thoughts cross my mind.  I've also been one to hold high expectations of my first born because she is so mentally mature for her age. ...

A Desperate Mom

Am I a desperate mom?

Are you?

I didn't really see myself needing to read this book.  I wasn't sure I'd be able to relate with it.

Am I tired?  Yes.

Overwhelmed?  Often!

Do I yell at my kids?  Not proud of it, but I do.

Do I fall into a mess of tears from time to time?  Um...more often than I probably should.

But desperate?

That seems like such a strong word to describe where I'm at as a mom and wife.

The thing is, I've followed Sarah Mae's writing for a while now and I was ...

‘Tis the Season for Hot Chocolate

Woo Hoo!

I was paging through a magazine the other day and read that December 13th (today!) is National Cocoa Day.

Seriously...who comes up with these National Days anyway?

If I were to create my own National Day of... I think my day would be National Mom-Doesn't-Have-To-Get-Out-Of-Bed day.

And it would be a totally separate day from Mother's Day, because it would be only for moms with young children.  Which would mean everyone else (dad's, grandma's, etc...) would have to jump in and take the kids for the day so mom could lay around in bed all day...reading...sleeping...watching ...

Choose Contentment

Every year during the month of October my mother-in-law starts asking her loved ones for their Christmas lists.

As the end of the month rapidly approaches, she is turning up the pressure because my unfinished list is now delinquent.  She graciously reminds me that she's getting older and "can't possibly shop for items on everyone's list in one day."

She likes to get her shopping done early so she can enjoy the special traditions, the family gatherings, the baking, the laughter, the Christmas program and services at church and the beauty of the holiday season, stress-free.

As a ...

Eliminating the Chaos of the Christmas Season

I can't believe I'm about to say this but, I just finished reading another book on my Kindle.

That's two books in less than two weeks!  I might be onto something here.  It has felt pretty awesome to give myself time for rest and relaxation.  Make no mistake though.  I've had to be intentional about it.

While I was reading this week's book choice, Untangling Christmas by Karen Ehman and ...

A Christmas Kiss Tradition

I love sharing traditions from the heart with my husband and children.

This Christmas season I've added a new tradition, and so far I'm getting an extra dose of smiles and hugs out of it.

Each day, as I reflect on Christ's love for me and my family and look forward to celebrating the birth of our Savior, I've decided to give a special gift of love to those I'm blessed to spend my life with.

This gift is simple, inexpensive, and sweet!

It's a Hershey's Kiss!

When I pack my husband's lunch that he takes to ...
