Today I have the great pleasure of being the host on Day 6 of the Virtual Blog Tour for FaithLeaps: The Christian Mom’s Guide to Passion, Purpose and Profits by author Alyssa Avant. On the last stop of the tour, Alyssa visited Heather Hart’s blog at Servant, Wife, Mother.
Below is the great interview I did with Alyssa about FaithLeaps.
What exactly is passion?
As I say in the book, “According to Dictionary.com, passion is a noun meaning any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. When we’re passionate about something, we feel such powerful emotions toward it that we cannot help but talk about it and promote it, even if we don’t get anything in return.”
How can someone define their passion?
As I share in the book the best way for a person to find their passion is to look at three specific areas of their lives: things they enjoy doing / are good at doing, their spiritual gifts, and their personality. When they are able to discover these things and where they intersect they will better be able to locate their sweet spot.
How will defining your passion be helpful?
If a person wants to discover what it is that they will truly be fulfilled in doing, then they definitely want to discover their passion. When you live out your passion you will truly know what it means to live life to the fullest, which is what God wants for us.
Can someone have no passion?
I don't believe that it is possible to not have a passion. I believe God gifted each of us with gifts, dreams and passions that He wants to see us enjoy.
Is a dream or goal the same as a passion?
No, a dream or goal is different from someone's passion. A passion is something that you would do or pursue even if you didn't get paid for it. Your passion will influence your goals and dreams.
How is your passion tied in to your relationship with God?
As I mentioned earlier, our gifts and passions are God-given. God placed those gifts inside of you. I believe that it is very difficult for a person to truly find their passion and live it out apart from a relationship with God. This helps us to fulfill our passions, God works in us and through us.

God has placed a passion within me to help mothers and fathers bring health to their families. That passion has played out in many ways in the jobs that I have held and the hobbies and ministries that I have pursued. I'm still working on learning to balance my passion with my daily responsibilities.

I am still trying to find my God given talents
I have a passion to making quality homemade dog treats. There have been numerous recalls of pet treats that have killed dogs or made them very sick. It's important to love our dogs and be able to treat them without worrying about whether those treats will harm them.

My passion is to hear other people's inspirational stories and share it to others too. I agree in the statement "No, a dream or goal is different from someone's passion. A passion is something that you would do or pursue even if you didn't get paid for it. Your passion will influence your goals and dreams." VERY TRUE! For now my passion is to seek God so I would be able to serve Him, love my husband more and help others know about His good tidings. Thanks for sharing...

Mai, thank you for visiting and commenting! What an honor to have you here.
Alyssa Avant's book, FaithLeaps, is a very readable, well-organized approach to identifying one's passion and then learning how the Lord wants to use it for His glory. She issues a challenge to "step out of the boat" and trust Him to take us where He wants us to go with our calling. I especially liked her comparison between her earthly father's delight on Christmas morning and our heavenly Father's delight in our accomplishments for Him. Thanks, Alyssa, for a great read!
