A few weeks ago I was contacted by a proud mother of ten whose 19 year old daughter recently had her first book published. Yes, you read that right. Emily Simmons, Author of the adorably cute book, Spot the Puppy, is only 19 years old! Even more impressive, this is the first book in a series of 22 that she's written, all based around the Christian character of a cute little puppy named Spot.
So What About Spot the Puppy?
Spot is an average little puppy who always stands up for what is right. But he's not perfect. Especially around peer pressure. In the book, Spot meets a new friend, Butch who is a bull dog and a bad influence. Because Butch is Spot's only friend, Spot hesitantly goes along with the mean spirited games Butch thinks they should play. But in his heart, Spot knows what Butch is doing is wrong.
Later, Spot shares with his parents the awful games his new friend likes to play and explains that he didn't want to go along with it, but he didn't want to lose the only friend he has. Spot's concerned parents agree to give Butch one more chance. But Butch is still up to no good.
As he starts to bully Sunshine, a new girl puppy moving in to the neighborhood, Spot stands up for the puppy and tells Butch to "leave her alone!" An angry Butch walks away, while Spot and Sunshine become fast friends.
The book is adorably cute with a great Christian message and is written really well. There are 10 delightfully illustrated pictures in the 32 page story, so it seems to be written for the 1st grade reading level and up. But even young toddlers who love being read to, would enjoy the story of Spot the Puppy.
My girls, age 2 and 6, really enjoyed this book and thought Spot was "such a cute little dog."
A Spot the Puppy Giveaway
Because I'm sure you and your kids will love the Spot the Puppy character and stories, I'm hosting a special giveaway prize. This prize includes the two book collection, Spot the Puppy and Spot the Puppy and the daring duo, along with a Spot the Puppy and friends coloring book. This would make a nice little Christmas gift!
Giveaway starts 11/8 at 12:00 am EST and ends 11/11 at 11:59 pm EST. Winner will be determined on 11/12 by random.org and notified via email. To enter, simply complete each of the entries below by Liking my Facebook Fanpage and the Spot the Puppy Facebook Fanpage. If you have a twitter account, follow each of us in twitter too. Then one final request is that you spread the news of this giveaway by either sharing this post in Facebook or Twitter. Leave a comment below letting me know where and how you shared it.
One quick statement of caution for parents with younger children: After the end of the story, there is a page which refers to Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death;…" The price for our sin is eternal death in hell. "…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." I understand Emily's desire to minister to her more mature readers, I just didn't want you to get caught off guard if you haven't yet discussed the potentially scary topics of death or hell with your child. Since it's after the story is already finished, it would be your option to close the book there or continue reading on.
Now what are you waiting for? Start your entries!
