Inexpensive Valentine’s Day Family Fun

The first quarter of the year is always a bit tight for us, financially.

Between paying off Christmas debt, setting money aside for our Anniversary (we just celebrated 11 years!), and planning for the upcoming tax season, we find ourselves trying to make our every dime stretch to the max.

So with Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, this year we are sort of viewing it as just another Hallmark holiday from an expense standpoint.

Of course, my daughter will be taking Valentine treats in to her class for their Valentine's Day party, but beyond that we aren't pouring much money into ...

Finally, a Book for the Blog at Home Mom…

Many of you have asked me how I do it all.   Motherhood.  Marriage.  Blogging.

If you're a blogger, you know how time consuming living the writer's life can be, particularly when social media is necessary to build a community, promote your efforts, and eventually earn any income from any books or products you might be involved in.

If I'm to be honest, I don't always juggle everything well.

I'm not always 100% attentive to my children and husband when I need to be.  I easily get consumed by writing goals and bringing ...

“I Love You” – More Than Just Words…

He tells me all the time that I'm so good to him.

"I'm so blessed to have you for my wife," he whispers, hugging me.

Yet I struggle to believe it.

More often than not, I'm focused on the kids or the task at hand instead of him.  I'm constantly busy with this or that.

I'm a mom, a wife, a friend, a writer, a blogger, a homemaker, a daughter, a sister, encourager, and a passionate follower of Christ.

There are days when juggling all of it seems so overwhelming.  So I struggle to feel like I'm loving him well. ...

How My Husband Saved My Life

Marriage should be honored by all...

~ Hebrews 13:4

He was the man of my dreams.

I had finally found Mr. Right, and that night so burned into my memory, he couldn't breathe. He was doubled over on his hands and knees gasping for air.

I rushed him to the hospital, tears staining my cheeks.

He was admitted that evening and was soon transferred to the ICU unit at Cedar Sinai Medical Center.

His diagnosis?  Cardiomyopathy.  In short - a weak heart muscle.  He was lucky to have gotten to the hospital when he did.  His ...

I Love These Gorgeous Hair Clips!

Hi friends,

I just wanted to take a minute to show you these gorgeous hair clips!

I have been seeing them advertised online a lot lately and was so excited to learn my good friend Jasmine sells them!  I'm totally planning on buying one...or perhaps ten!

In a house full of girls (my poor hubby!) I know these hair clips will definitely be put to good use.  We are always looking for some fun new ways to style my 7 year olds long (and often tangled) hair.  Plus, I really get tired of wearing the same boring ponytail all the ...

What’s Important in God’s Eyes?

Many of you know I have this awful struggle with feelings of inadequacy.  A lifelong problem, it has become far worse of an issue since I left the workforce and settled into the daily role of stay-at-home mom.

Life in the corporate world was filled with performance reviews, training courses to enhance my skill set, team-oriented challenges and goals to strive for, competitions among co-workers resulting in fun rewards like an all expense paid trip to Maui (I won!), promotions, pay raises, and yearly bonuses.

I did really well in the position I held; all without a college ...

A Desperate Mom

Am I a desperate mom?

Are you?

I didn't really see myself needing to read this book.  I wasn't sure I'd be able to relate with it.

Am I tired?  Yes.

Overwhelmed?  Often!

Do I yell at my kids?  Not proud of it, but I do.

Do I fall into a mess of tears from time to time?  Um...more often than I probably should.

But desperate?

That seems like such a strong word to describe where I'm at as a mom and wife.

The thing is, I've followed Sarah Mae's writing for a while now and I was ...

The Best of Christian SuperMom 2012

Every year I like to take the week between Christmas and the New Year to reflect on (and celebrate) the events of the year past and say a prayer for the year to come.  I encourage you to do the same.  It's an awesome exercise in giving praise to the One who made each day possible.

Here's the best of 2012 in my world.

UnEmployed Faith

The book God led me through writing was self-published in early January.  What a huge accomplishment ...

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and a Blogging Vacation

Hi sweet friends!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I'm saying this to you now {rather than on Christmas and New Year}, because I have decided I really need to take a vacation from blogging.

Taking a break of any kind is not something I do easily.  I always feel tugged by endless To Do lists.

Particularly in the Writing/Blogging arena.  I have more ideas brewing than I have time or energy to bring to fruition.  One day...

Right now, I really just need time to be still and present here in my home.

I need to sit ...

‘Tis the Season for Hot Chocolate

Woo Hoo!

I was paging through a magazine the other day and read that December 13th (today!) is National Cocoa Day.

Seriously...who comes up with these National Days anyway?

If I were to create my own National Day of... I think my day would be National Mom-Doesn't-Have-To-Get-Out-Of-Bed day.

And it would be a totally separate day from Mother's Day, because it would be only for moms with young children.  Which would mean everyone else (dad's, grandma's, etc...) would have to jump in and take the kids for the day so mom could lay around in bed all day...reading...sleeping...watching ...
